SafeWax at IMEC-20: Advancing Sustainable Crop Protection

MSc student Niv Ben Arie presented his research within the SafeWax project on the Development of Bioinspired Fatty Acid-Based Coatings for Advancing Sustainable Agricultural Practices at the 20th Israel Materials Engineering Conference (IMEC-20), held on February 25-26, 2025, in Jerusalem.

As part of SafeWax’s effort to develop novel alternatives to conventional agrochemicals, this research demonstrates the successful formulation of solvent-based fatty acid coatings with superhydrophobic properties. These coatings also exhibit excellent thermal and UV stability, ensuring their durability and effective performance under various environmental conditions

This work contributes to SafeWax’s broader goal of developing eco-friendly coatings that enhance plant protection, reduce pesticide use, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
